Here’s my first lesson to pass on from my knowledge of the music industry, if someone tells you to check out an amazing band they’re really into Make Sure You Chase It Up And Check Them Out! That’s the mistake I made growing up when friends told me about the band FINCH. They were always in the back of my mind but I never got off my ass to give them a listen and I am regretting it now because I’ve been missing out on one of the best bands Southern California has to offer.
The boys have been through so many ups and downs over the past 12 years including two hiatuses, multiple line-up changes and a scrapped third album, but they are back and better than ever with their latest offering “Back to Oblivion” and I was lucking enough to have a chat to guitarist and all around legend Randy Strohmeyer. The man who is like the glue that keeps the band together spoke about their early beginnings where no one was doing anything like they were as a band, and how their passion for making music helped mould them into the success they are today.
Between 2002’s “What It Is To Burn” and their new album “Back to Oblivion” (Released October 3rd in Australia), Finch kept coming back, but stayed true to the style of music that fans grew to love. I guess coming from a family that were so orientated with music really helped Randy strive for that successful career in the industry. And with parents that attended the second last concert of The Clash when he was two weeks from being born, there was no way he was destined to excel in anything else.
The boys were only in Australia this year for the Soundwave Festival but they've expressed interest to come back and perform on the tour again if AJ Maddah invites them, until then they’re working on a headlining tour for next year to showcase their new material and hopefully arrange a collaboration with a well known Australian identity.
Take a listen to find out who ;)
Until next time, rock the fuck out!
