2016 heralds the return of the Swedish metal juggernaut – MESHUGGAH - a band that for the past 20 years, has carved out arguably the most unique space within the genre; a space few others, if any, are able to coexist within.
Think about it - when was the last time you saw a band cover a Meshuggah track?
On the eve of their 30th year of existence, the band are releasing their 8th studio album, The Violent Sleep of Reason, and as with all releases before it these songs hit like a goddamn aural sledgehammer.
Taking away the computers, recording live, but retaining the machine-like precision that has helped define their career thus far – MESHUGGAH's latest effort treats the ears to an evolved form of controlled viciousness that speaks to their experience within the industry as well as their desire to continually push the bounds of their own creativity.
Some of the best vocals frontman Jens Kidman has recorded, ever.
Dimebag Darrell-inspired riffage.
An album with “no favourite moments”.
Details on all of this and loads more in a tell-all chat with rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström – listen to it below.
