The rise in popularity of hardcore/punk bands in Australia is certainly on the rise and with certain acts such as Northlane, The Amity Affliction, Parkway Drive and In Hearts Wake all debuting new albums within the Top 3 Spots on the Aria Charts it's no surprise other Australian bands are starting to follow suit. Hellions are one of those bands who are definitely on the rise to global success, and with their latest release "Indian Summer" debuting at #19, it is only a matter of time before they join their brethren taking out top spots and selling out shows around the county.

The now 5 piece from Sydney have only been doing the rounds since forming in early 2013, but in that short amount of time they've managed to build a growing fanbase not only in Australia but across the world, tour with the likes of Enter Shikari, Every Time I Die and Deez Nuts and will be embarking on one of their biggest international tours to date, supporting Northlane on their Node European Tour next month.

They have literally just kicked off headlining the Destroy Music Tour bringing with them US acts Capsize and '68 (Josh Scogin's latest band) and if last night's performance was anything to go by, these boys are ready to bring it. We crammed ourselves in the back of their tour van for a close and semi-comfortable chat about their success so far, how other upcoming bands now look up to them for support and guidance as they first start out and how the hardcore genre needs to start getting recognition from mainstream media such as radio. As a commercial radio announcer myself, this is something I have been trying to push to make happen for well over the past seven years, and it's only now because these bands have sold out huge arenas across the country and are dominating the charts with every album released that they are finally getting looked at by mainstream news. It will only be a matter of time before we hear a band like Hellions coming on the radio after a Taylor Swift or One Direction song.

The future of the Australian hardcore/punk scene is thriving so much at the moment, we are so lucky to have such a growing scene filled with highly talented and motivated bands. Get out there and support them so they can continue to make music you love and tour your home towns and eventually reach the goal of international success.
