A prog fan's wet dream! That's one way to describe the return of the second serving of Monolith Festival, which kicked off festivities at Brisbane's Fortitude Music Hall over the weekend. Complete with a lineup of who's who in the genre, headlined by Coheed and Cambria diving into their stellar album Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness; the masses turned up in droves early on to bear witness to the group's return to Australian shores, the first time since 2016, and you better believe they made up for lost time.

The iconic Periphery also put on a display of technical prowess which had fans staring in awe at the outfit following their up-close-and-personal workshops earlier in the day, a new addition to Monolith's second year which resulted in a vast array of fans and musicians alike diving into the included experiences like a moth into a flame.

From the opening bars of Australia's Silver Fang welcoming punters into the full day celebrations, French metalcore act Novelists certainly "turned it up!" for us all with their new and improved lineup and the enigmatic Camille Contreras leading the charge with the band's debut Australian show. Intervals had the audiences captivated with their instrumental attack on the senses, while Norway's Leprous gained a new legion of followers after their set.

It goes without saying one of the most popular sessions attended on the day was Claudio Sanchez's discussion and Q&A for the 20th Anniversary of Amory Wars, where fans packed into The Outpost to hear anecdotes detailing the intricate conception and development of the mastermind's Graphic Novel Universe.

By blending both the live music aspect and unique fan experiences, Monolith too levelled up with their own progression as one of Australia's most promising boutique festivals. Melbourne and Sydney are up next - along with a plethora of sideshows across the country over the next week - immerse yourself.
