I love the smell of Australian heavy/alternative tunes in the morning, especially on a fresh and bitey New Music Friday like we have today. Whether you're a deathcore craver, a pop punk fiend or you just like finding new bands from down under to support, we've got you covered with 13 Acts well worth your time below.
They've all been added to this week's Aussie Heavyweights & Hitmakers Playlist too, so stay up to date with the best releases each week by following on Apple and Spotify here.
Let's hook in...
Gravemind - Introsphere
It's certainly not the sophomore slump for the Gravy boys, who overcame a stack of lineup changes following the release of their debut album, to put together a worthy follow-up called Introsphere that's going to propel them further than imaginable.
As our reviewer says:
This, and the fact that virtually everything about this album is world-class – songwriting, production, musicianship, vocals – should find Introsphere reaching a global audience, and the band on the road internationally.

A Night In Texas - Digital Apocalypse
This Cairns-based deathcore outfit disappeared for a couple of years before introducing new screamer Sam Cameron back in May on 'Apex of Agony'. Today, the lads unveil Digital Apocalypse, their concept album with Sam fronting and to say it was worth the wait would be an understatement!
As our reviewer shares:
Digital Apocalypse isn’t a revolution but is a natural evolution from their previous work that represents some of the best deathcore in the genre.

Teenage Joans & Between You And Me - '1800-PAINLESS'
Ahead of their co-headline regional tour kicking off next week, Teenage Joans and Between You And Me have jumped in a co-op collab for '1800-PAINLESS' which showcases the best features of each band in one handy location.
Throwing back to nostalgic sounds of the 2010s pop punk scene, BYAM's Jake Wilson and Cahli Blakers bounce off each other like two love-torn lovers battling for the attention of the other and the back and forth shared vocals really gives the song it's cutting edge.
But was the creative process as fun as the song itself sounds?
“We had such a blast hanging with our BYAM besties and creating this absolute monster of a track! We’ve been big fans of them for ages so it’s a dream being able to finally collab!” - Teenage Joans
“As long time fans, it was awesome to get into the studio with the TJ legends and write a song together. The song has all the flavours of both bands and it absolutely rips.” - Between You & Me
You better believe they'll be bashing this one out live on tour, so make sure you get tickets.

Inertia - 'Leviathan'
After tearing up stages on Polaris' Regional Tour, fellow Resist Records boys Inertia have released their next single from upcoming debut album Second Shadow - set to drop on August 9th.
'Leviathan' is such a tasty djent/groove-infused jam that once again highlight's frontman Julian Latouche's impeccable vocals. If you've seen this man on stage, you know just how fast you sink into his delivery, and when you've got a band like Inertia behind him, the combination makes them one of the scene's most promising acts on the rise. The song also features guesties from Thornhill's Jacob Charlton who oozes his own charisma throughout taking the sexiness up a notch in the process.
Expect nothing but moody chaos when their debut record drops next week. Until then, lose yourself in this new offering.

The Comfort - 'The Weight Of The World'
Atmospheric rockers The Comfort have burst back into the alternative scene with new bop 'The Weight Of The World'; their first taste of new music since the release of second album Experience Everything. Live and Die back in 2022.
Combining that signature tango between lead vocalist Dom Harper's alluring delivery and intricate synth/guitar tangoing, we have the makings of the band's best released single yet.
On the single, guitarist/vocalist Liam Holmes shares the track delves into the weight of existence, truth-seeking and searching for answers in the seemingly meaningless:
“We have this newfound abundance of information but the same lack of power to affect the awful things we are witnessing, while we watch the people with the power to act do nothing but succumb to greed... The disconnect from reality is profound. We could have such a positive impact on the world, yet it feels like we are just destroying the earth and its inhabitants. I find it hard to engage in the harmful games society plays, I fear it’s becoming too late to change course.”
If that doesn't hook you in, there's plenty of screams to fill the void... all you gotta do is hit play!

Bad/Love - Mono No Aware
Bad/Love's newly released Mono No Aware is an amalgamation of their 3 EPs completed by final single 'Erased' - thus creating a beefy 15-track listening experience that showcases the band's impeccable talent from start to finish.
Final offering 'Erased' draws you in instantly and wastes no time enticing your ears with Landon Kirk's delicate cleans complimented by background sceams reminiscent of bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Bad Omens and when that breakdown call of 'LEAVE ME FOR DEAD' kicks in, prepare to fight invisible ninjas like your life depends on it.
Bad/Love kick off their Mono No Aware Tour with Outloved next week and you'd be a sucker for missing out on hearing these tracks in a live setting.

Melting - 'Complex'
After bursting onto the scene back in June with 'Modern Human Ritual', Melbourne metalcore act Melting have honed in on their screams with follow-up single 'Complex' which leans more into the hardcore side of their ferocious sound. Frontman Xavier Morris is a beast behind the mic, delivering a wide range of soundscapes that'll no doubt turn heads in future.
Keep up the great work guys, keen to hear and see more, so get your butts in gear and get touring soon please and thank you.

Heartline - 'Synthetic'
Every day we go about our lives on the internet like we always have, without a second thought to the ways we are communicating with each other. But, when you take a step back and think about some of those interactions, it really makes you wonder if it's a helpful tool, or just a hostile place to erupt upon strangers.
Heatline have tackled this subject matter so well with new song 'Synthetic' which vocalist Luke Taylor explains:
"It's about how people's communication on the internet is so perverted and twisted compared to proper communication... Every discussion you see becomes a personal hostile fight, we’re losing the ability to be respectful and united in trying to understand one another. I also draw on my personal battle with getting sucked into reading comment sections knowing they’re gonna make me mad and put me in a bleak mood."
Knowing the song's meaning and then clicking play and hearing those daunting synths really create a soundtrack for the madness that we encounter day-in day-out. Who knows, Heartline could be the reason we all put the phones down and return to reality, but not until they release their Pink Lemonade EP on August 16th where this anthem sits neatly in the tracklisting.

To The Grave - 'Burn Your Local Butcher'
This goes without saying - To the Grave are one of Australia's most brutal exports and their forthcoming album Everyone's A Murderer (out August 30th) is set to defy odds and traject the deathcore animal activists to unprecedented heights.
Their abrasive new offering 'Burn Your Local Butcher' will not only have you banging your head in unison but have you thinking twice about your next produce purchase. Especially when lyrice like 'Eight inch steel and an easy target / Trap them inside their future caskets' ring out as Dane Evans seizes your attention using only his demonic vocals.

Life Pilot - 'Feeding An Illness'
RADelaide noise makers Life Pilot have circled back with their first drop of new music since 2019 and so far 'Feeding An Illness' has proven this five-piece are here to make their presence known again. The chaotic outfit life up to their social bio as they launch into a ferocious scream-filled display of hardcore which will no doubt send body parts flying at their upcoming single launch show with Signals, KIN and Chapel Hill.
Not ones to fade into the shadows following their new single drop, the boys are set to premiere their music video for 'Feeding An Illness' tomorrow morning - which was filmed at the haunted Glenside Z Ward for the Criminally Insane.

51st Avenue - 'Moments'
The Sydney-siders have popped back into our lives with 'Moments', an enchanting gift that finds the pop punk kids venturing into harder, alternative rock territory akin to that of The Beautiful Monument and Reliqa before them. Frontwoman Alynnis Zizza shines bright as she captivates with her performance and the band's first-ever breakdown will surely serve as a gateway for fans (and the band) to dip their toes into the heavier side of the alternative scene.
The change in sound came about with new bassist/songwriter Anthony Carollo who joined the group and watsed no time getting stuck into the writing process as he shares:
“This was my first time being involved in more of a formal writing process with some real intent. It was eye opening to see the process behind the scenes of a band I've known and admired for so long, and I loved every moment. We approached the song wanting some real signature 51st pop/rnb vibes in the verse and intros, with a melting chorus. The song evolved and we all agreed that the bridge needed to be climactic and something we haven’t done before, and so our first breakdown was born! When I listen back to the finished song it‘s like the room stops, and I can’t wait for the world to hear what we’ve worked so hard on!”

Cultists - 'Sink Into The Ceiling'
Any song that kicks off with a tasty 'BLEGH' is a winner in my eyes. Cultists from Sydney have returned to follow up their 2023 EP Sigil with 'Sink Into The Ceiling' - a feral deathcore drop that's guaranteed to get you moving and with a cheeky smoke-and-mirrors breakdown that teases you into thinking all hell is about to break loose before shifting direction to a more ominous and daunting drop which hits twice as hard.
It's going to be hard to pick this week's Song of the Week but this one comes close to taking the crown. Give it a spin and let us know what you think across our socials.

Sick Puppies - 'THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD'
Technically this one dropped last week, but since then Aussie exports Sick Puppies have announced their long-awaited new album WAVE THE BULL will drop in March 2025, almost 9 years since the release of their last effort, 2016's album Fury.
Bringing back that signature hard rock sound that made them a household name on tracks like 'You're Going Down' and 'Gunfight', frontman Bryan Scott invokes his best rockstar attitude as he belts out some palatable screams worthy of a mention on WoS, but the real star is original member Emma Anzai who shines with her heightened bass tones which are spotlighted throughout.
After joining Evanescence in 2022, we didn't think Anzai would return to the band she co-founded, butseeing how much effort they're putting into his return, we can only expect big things in the lead up to their 6th album's release.
