Linkin Park Unearth Screamy Metal Track 'QWERTY' with Papercuts Singles Collection
It's time for a healthy hit of nostalgia to the face - but the good kind.Today LinkinPark released their Papercuts Singles Collection album which features tracks released between 2000 and 2023 including 'Friendly Fire' which dropped back in February and the long-awaited 'QWERTY' - a B-side recorded during the Minutes To Midnight sessions.Immediately after hitting play we're met with a raw-sounding guitar riff that leads us up to a screaming ChesterBennington and as the song progresses, it continues to sound more like an ode to Metallica and Pantera with its Texas-styled metal sound. MikeShinoda adds plenty of rapping flavour throughout but once again it's Chester's delivery and rough screams that take centre stage.The overall production is stripped back and when played alongside album hits like 'GivenUp', 'NoMoreSorrow' and 'Bleed It Out', it's certainly not out of place. There's been some discord about if this song was originally placed on the album, would Minutes to Midnight have been received better than it did upon release in 2007? And to that, I say no.While 'QWERTY' is one for the metalheads among LP's fanbase, I can't help but feel the production holds it back from being "album-worthy" and I can see why it was left off. For the true fans though, discovering a song that's been floating around the internet for years and having an actual studio version on a release of 'greatest hits' will make you appreciate the song more, especially given the circumstances surrounding the band's future.Either way, any time a previously unreleased LinkinPark track drops - the world listens, and 'QWERTY' will be no different.Words by Paul ‘Browny’ Brown@brownypaul
