If you are somehow still unaware of the resurgence of ex-Chelsea Grin members Alex Koehler, Jacob Harmond and Pablo Viveros, it is time for you to emerge from the rock you live beneath and familiarize yourself with their current project - Ameonna.Following on from the trio's debut EP titled Goddess Wept, which was released in January of this year, things in the Ameonna base camp seemingly haven't slowed a single bit. Their hard work ethic shines through as their momentum in the studio continues to flourish with the release of new single 'Last Respects', only three months since their previous release. On the new track, frontman Alex Koehler goes on to tell Wall Of Sound:

"We came up with the idea for the lyrical content while we were brainstorming in the studio. Both Diego (Farias) and Garrett (Garfield) were very good friends of ours and we lost them both roughly around the same time. Both were musicians with such incredible talent, they were the type of guys who you could hand a tin can and a spoon to and they’d find a way to make something musical with it. Not to mention they were both the kind of people who would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. They were some of the sweetest and most kindhearted people you’d ever meet. So when the idea came up about honoring them in a song, you could imagine it was a pretty easy thing to get behind.

A lot of the songs we’ve done are based in real life struggle. As far as 'Last Respects' goes, everyone has lost someone that is dear to them at some point in their life. Everyone understands how painful loss can be. When you hear this song, you’re going to think about that person you lost, and it’ll probably stir up a little emotion from within. It makes the song a little bit more powerful in a sense. Those memories we shared will always be with us and I think it’s important to be reminded of them every now and then. Those who we lost will always be here in our hearts and it’s up to us to honor them by living our lives to the absolute fullest every single day."

Truly a well-spoken sentiment that we can all relate to on some level as each of us navigate the complexities of life.

The track has a slower tempo than is seen throughout their previous body of work, Goddess Wept, however, this doesn't hold back guitarist Jacob Harmond as he enjoys his moments in the spotlight while delicately shredding to his hearts content. Alex Koehler instantly reminds me why he is one of the best vocalists in the game as he spits venom into the mic with his deep, low vocals throughout the opening line of the track "I remember the way that it felt that day...", as Koehler continues on that trend for the duration of the track, he goes on to fluctuate his range at certain points, continuing to prove that he is no one trick pony. Pablo Viveros holds back, in line with the slower tempo. This however is far from a bad thing - as the saying goes 'less is more', which certainly rings true in this instance, and believe me, nobody loves blast beats and copious amounts of double kicks more than me.

Wishful thinking leads me to hope that this song is quite possibly the first step towards the trio's next studio release. Whether it be an LP or an EP, you can bet your bottom dollar that we are already counting down the days until we hear word of the their next announcement – hopefully more music (because more Ameonna is never a bad thing).Written by Adam RiceStream 'Last Respects' at midnight local time
