Unless, to quote The Simpsons, you’ve been living on Mars, in a cave, with your eyes shut and your fingers in your ears, you might have noticed that Taylor Swift has landed in Australia for her much anticipated (and well and truly sold out) Eras tour. We here at Wall of Sound are not at all shy about hooking ourselves onto the coattails of a nationwide hypetrain, and hence have been on the hunt for that link, no matter how tenuous, to something from the world of heavy music to shoehorn into something to get some of those Swiftie clicks coming our way. Luckily, Dragonforce have come to the rescue, dropping an epic-as-fuck cover of ‘Wildest Dreams.’ The cover is classic Dragonforce, loaded with bands trademark of blistering solos and soaring power metal vocals, and is up there as one of the best metal-renditions of Taylor Swift I’ve heard in ages (although to be fair, I don’t tend to go seeking those out much.) Incidentally, Dragonforce are just under a month away from dropping their long-awaited new album, Warp Speed Warriors, their follow-up to 2019’s Extreme Power Metal, and their first with new bass player, Alica Vigil, who joined the band in 2020. Hopefully they’ll make their way down here later in the year for some shows. So, if you’ve ever wanted to hear Taylor Swift at 200 bpm, check out the video below, and go pre-order their new album here. And if you don’t dig it...well...haters gonna hate, I guess (sorry, needed to get one more bad Taylor Swift pun in.) Words by – Simon Valentine (@SimonValentineAU)
