Now that we have all had a second to calm down, wipe the tears away from our eyes and process the fact that ex-members of Chelsea Grin - Alex Koehler (vocalist), Jacob Harmond (guitar) and Pablo Viveros (drums) have reunited to form Ameonna, it's time to take a deep breath and compose ourselves once more so that we can take in the group's debut single titled 'Behavioral Health' as it was intended. As someone who is returning to the limelight within the deathcore community after several years away to focus on the healing process necessary to overcome his struggles with addiction, vocalist Alex Koehler expands on the journey of writing and recording heavy music once again with Ameonna as he goes on to say:
“Music is my therapy. Using darkness as a tool to create something that makes you happy is the best form of healing.”
We at Wall of Sound couldn't agree more, which is just one of the many reasons why the thought of how good the upcoming Goddess Wept EP will be once it hits our ears on February 2nd keeps us up, tossing and turning in bed each night. However, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's take another deep breath and get stuck into the new single 'Behavioral Health'.This new offering from the U.S based trio guides the group in a sonic direction that will continue to offer new music from this project that is still fresh and exciting, while also building on the the nostalgic sounds of deathcore's earlier era's that we all know and love these three talented musicians for. Harmond's low-tuned beefy guitar riffs, combined with Viveros' always impressive drumming skills, are nothing short of a treat to the senses. This track also allows us to observe Koehler and Viveros return to form by sharing vocal duties, as seen previously throughout their time together in Chelsea Grin. 'Behavioral Health' confirms that these three highly experienced and extremely talented musicians are here to once again breathe new life into what can sometimes be a stale genre.Words by Adam Rice
