Anime has been a vehicle for discovering new music coming out of Japan for decades and judging by the new coldrain single - that won’t be changing anytime soon. ‘NEW DAWN’, the theme for Netflix anime Bastard!!-Heavy Metal Dark Fantasy has dropped and it is everything you want in both an anime theme and just a banging track.
If you were not introduced to coldrain back when they toured Australia earlier this year with The Used and Papa Roach, then this is the perfect time to get acquainted. Not only did they pull off the impressive job of opening for two incredible acts, but they also put on a hell of a show at a one-off headlining date in Brisbane.
One of the biggest bands on the Japanese post-hardcore circuit is back with a new single and it's the first new music we have heard from the band since their 2022 album Nonnegative and oh man, it’s so good to have them back. ‘NEW DAWN’ dips into the heavier side of coldrain as the occasion truly calls for it. Vocalist Masato Hayakawa’s distinct vocals get a work-out as well, delivering not just lines of pure poetry but his full-range is on display. Drummer Katsuma shows off his speed skills in the fast, driving verses. Lead guitarist Y.K.C also features front and centre, not just shredding but his work programming adds an extra layer to this already dynamic track.
‘NEW DAWN’ is not just heavy and dynamic, it is catchy as hell and is already taking over the Anisong side of YouTube.
