If there is one thing Sevendust are, it is consistent. Consistently heavy, consistently groovy, consistently powerful and of course, consistently dropping some incredible singles. Their latest single ‘Superficial Drug’ delivers in a way that only Sevendust can, giving us the last little teaser before their new album Truth Killer is released on the July 28 via Napalm Records.
The band, who first formed in 1994, burst onto the scene in the late 90’s and early 00’s with tracks like ‘Praise’, ‘Enemy’ and ‘Denial’. Since then, they have carved out their own path through the remanent of the nu-metal and alternative American rock movement, delivering solid albums every couple of years.
Their latest single ‘Superficial Drug’ follows the release of the previous singles ‘Holy Water’, ‘Everything’ and ‘Fence’. Taking more of a ballad route, the lyrics are raw and vulnerable. Frontman Lajon Witherspoon’s iconic vocals always stand out, but this time it is the rhythm section that drives this latest single. The bass is full of punch, without losing that signature Sevendust groove. It is infectious, addictive and goes down smooth. Melodic and emotional, even the guitar solo is encapsulated by rhythm section, delivering a track that hits close to the heart.
Spin the new single at midnight local time.
