Mike Shinoda & Kailee Morgue Debut ‘In My Head’ – Taken from SCREAM VI Soundtrack

It’s SCREAM VI season baby!

Not only is the latest instalment of the SCREAM franchise killing it in cinemas now (our film review here), but music from the motion picture has started dropping like its body count and today’s new track is going to fill a void we didn’t know we needed.

First Demi Lovato released the official lead single for the movie titled ‘Still Alive‘ which plays during the credits of the flick, but immediately after it (and at certain points throughout the film) we hear another song called ‘In My Head‘, which is actually a brand new single for Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda and alt-pop star Kailee Morgue – and today you can get it in your earholes on all streaming platforms!

Kicking off with a daunting array of synth (a nice little throwback to LP’s 2012 LIVING THINGS era single ‘BURN IT DOWN‘) before Mike starts spitting his rap style vocal performance made famous across Linkin Park and his side project Fort Minor before Kailee joins him in the chorus for a back and forth between the pair.

‘In my head / I can feel it getting closer / In my head / breathing heavy on my shoulder / and I’m trying to fake it, but there’s no way to escape it’

Phat basslines and drums throughout provide a thumping overall feel which truly captures the essence of the horror/slasher’s themes – more so than Demi Lovato‘s lead single (in my opinion). It’s fantastic to hear Mike on a new song though, this man’s voice is so iconic and we have really missed his upbeat performances and rap-influences since Linkin Park haven’t been releasing new music since the passing of Chester Bennington. Mike released a series of solo EPs back in 2018 and beyond, which were much moodier with heavier emotional delivery, but this feels like he’s having fun again, which we love to see. Fans are going to lap it up. Because of his collaboration, we also have Kailee on our radar now and her delivery is alluring, with a dash of danger. Together they work really well making ‘In My Head‘ an instant earworm.

Mike’s been extra busy on the music front lately with Linkin Park‘s ongoing #Meteora20 celebrations underway, I have a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot more from our fav artist/producer.

It’s a great song and will no doubt be a hit with the new-age fans of the SCREAM franchise. For us oldies, we get to go back and listen to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ ‘Red Right Hand‘ because, after 26 years, we still can’t get that SCREAM association out of our heads.

Listen to the track at midnight and go see SCREAM VI in cinemas now.
