Supports: Between You And Me and Those Who Dream

Let’s throw it back to July 2009, Short Stack played two sold out shows at Sydney’s infamous Metro Theatre… and they were some pretty wild shows from memory. Fast forward to July 2022 and the same three dudes from Budgewoi, now all dads, Sold Out three consecutive nights at the same venue. Albeit, a few break ups in between but damn, you could feel the nostalgia in the room from the minute you walked in.

Opening the night was Perth band Those Who Dream and who warmed up the crowd with catchy tunes and even had a drum solo in their set, bit of a bold move for a support band but we are at a Short Stack show and any Short Stack fan knows it’s not a Short Stack show without a drum solo.

Next up were Melbourne’s Between You & Me who got the crowd HYPED for Short Stack. They played a bunch of songs from their latest album Armageddon, including ‘Goldfish’, ‘Butterflies’, ‘Supervillain’ and ‘Go To Hell‘ before Jake & Bassy got in the crowd to close out their set with ‘Deadbeat‘. These guys get better every time I see them so make sure you catch them on their Australian tour next month!

And finally, in what’s been 2+ years in the making, Wall of Sound Digi-mag feature boys Short Stack took the stage and opened with ‘Burn You Down’. Budgewoi’s finest smashed through an array of songs – old and new – going from a shortened version of ‘Live4‘ straight into ‘Ladies & Gentlemen‘ that certainly took this old Short Stack fan right back to her early teens. Shaun Diviney & Andy Clemmensen‘s adorable sons brought out the beach ball for ‘Sunshine’ (Shaun’s boy Atticus didn’t quite want to leave the stage and wandered around to see what all the fuss for dad was about) before bubbles filled the room for ‘Sweet December‘. As I mentioned, it’s not a Stack show without a drum solo from Bradie Webb and as usual, it didn’t disappoint.

They closed out the set with ‘Planets’ before coming back for an encore with a cover of Blink 182’s ‘All The Small Things‘ with almost everyone in the crowd screaming “works sucks, I know” a little too passionately before every single attendee in the room, young and old, lost their shit for the ICONIC ‘Sway, Sway Baby‘!

The Stack is back and all is right in the world again!
