Hold back those tears because Violent Soho have announced after almost two decades as a band, they’re going on a bit of an indefinite breather to focus on their families and giving back to the community that made them a household name. But, they’re gifting fans a couple of departing presents in the form of a new song and send-off show in Brisbane!
In a post online, the band dropped the news, revealing:
“After nearly 20 years in Violent Soho we’ve experienced so much as a band – It’s been incredible and life-defining. We feel so grateful to have experienced the journey and to all the people that believed in our music and showed us so much support. However, as individuals we’ve found ourselves in different places over the last few years and so we’ve decided it’s time to take a break and lay low for a bit. This isn’t the end of the band, but we are looking forward to giving ourselves some space, focusing on our families, and giving back to the community which fostered and carried us.”
I’m not crying, you are! Firstly, their new song ‘Kamikaze‘ is pure Violent Soho goodness with the band’s iconic punky riffs and frontman Luke Boerdam‘s whiney vocals reminding us why we love this band so much. Mikey Richards bashes away on the drums as Luke Henery and Tids play back and forth on their guitars in unison with a throwback sound akin to that of their self-titled and Hungry Ghost albums. It’s the perfect final offering before they head off into the unknown. Grab the tissues though, it’s going to be sad once it finishes.

The band will also play a final send off show on September 10th at the Forty Music Hall in Brisbane alongside DZ Deathrays and Loser. Knowing how hard this band goes off in a live setting (especially with DZ in tow) it’s going to be a night to remember for Brisbane’s alt music scene.
