Fit For A King Return to Core Roots on Heavy-Hitter ‘Reaper’

Fit For A King Reaper review

Fit For A King are riding a euphoric wave at the moment, on the back of a super-energising Metalcore Snitches Australian tour, and they’re pouring that excitement into new music. Having live premiered new song ‘Eyes Roll Back‘ recently in Perth with Alpha Wolf (gig review here), it’s actually not the new tune they’re revealing today.

At their headline show in Melbourne (gig review here), Fit For A King shared that a different studio track would be getting imminently released, with an album out by the end of the year. The new song is called ‘Reaper‘ and it’s an exciting taste of what new FFAK is going to sound like.

One thing we can assure you is that 2022 FFAK is heavy. ‘Reaper‘ simply purges eloquent hell from front-to-back. With vocalist Ryan Kirby leaning into his absolute limits, the rest of the band follows suit with their efforts. The track has some stellar mixing with scratchy elements that electrify the single ten-fold. You should be prepared though, the closing breakdown is arguably the heaviest ever heard from FFAK, with Kirby channelling pig-squeals and more.

“In the studio, I became obsessed with a German TV show called Dark,” says Ryan. “The show really had me reflect on how finite our time on earth is — that we have no control, no matter how rich, religious, or diligent. Time is truly the Grim Reaper.”
