For The Fallen Dreams Return After Four Long Years With 'What If'
For the best part of the last decade, metalcore veterans For The Fallen Dreams have let a solid few years pass between records, leaving fans desperate for new material between album cycles. After dropping Heavy Hearts in 2014, FTFD dropped Six four years later in 2018, before leaving us waiting for yet another four years in anticipation. Between albums, frontman Chad Ruhlig has been doing some cool stuff with his side-project LGND, who dropped their sophomore record Versatile just last year, including tunes like 'Pagan Prayer'.
After announcing their signing with Arising Empire Records, FTFD are back in a big way. The Michigan outfit have teased new single 'What If' over the past few weeks and loyal fans are beyond ready to hear with the seventh era of the five-piece sounds like, and now you finally can.
On the new single, the band comments:
"We are very excited to be breaking into this new era of For The Fallen Dreams, with the extremely dedicated and hard working team at Arising Empire. Sharing the vision for the future of the band's success is extremely refreshing and motivating. We look forward to a great rest of the year and everything that follows with our new single 'What If.' See you on the road."
'What If' may not exactly be what you'd expect. Commencing with a stark nu-metal verse to kick things off, the track eventually bursts into their signature melodic hardcore style before transitioning back into the rap-heavy style. As the song progresses, FTFD incrementally load up the instrumental side, while maintaining rhythmic cleans in the chorus and finally revealing a taste of some unclean growls towards the end. Whilst 'What If' doesn't stick to their known style, it's exciting to hear new elements of creativity and new tones on FTFD in 2022. Let's see what else they have in store for the year.
Watch the official music video below and listen to the new single at midnight local time.
