Chris Mackertich – DREGG ‘Art is Self-Expression’

We’ve been onto DREGG for quite a while now, and the fellas are finally taking their innovative music and performances across Australia for their first ever headline tour! It’s hard to describe DREGG’s sound, but if you think of hardcore/metal/rap, you’re almost there.

This band never do what you think a band should or might do, for example, did you know they’re signed to Epitaph Records and have released 13 singles since?

Chris explains, “COVID hit and we realised, it’s not like we can drop a single and then go tour. So Epitaph and our management all got together and set a really cool goal where we just release a song every six weeks because like it looked like Melbourne was just not getting better and could be in lockdown for the next how many fucking years. So we were just like, let’s just pump it out, we were just sending riffs and shit to each other back and forth and we just we smashed it out. We were shooting videos in between lockdowns where we could. And yeah, looking back I’m so glad we did that because like a lot of those songs could have ended up being an EP or an album, and it it just kept us relevant to everything and kept people listening and tuned in.”

To find out more about how their art is a vessel for self-expression, what a DREGG album could sound like, and how context is a very important part of life, listen to the interview below on your favourite streaming service.
