Australia’s Nikki Brumen (ex-Pagan) is living the fucking dream right now. Fresh off the back of her very first live shows with death pop act Blood Command opening for Kvelertak in Europe, the band have just revealed their new single ‘I Just Want That Movie Ending’. The song is set to appear on their forthcoming album, Praise Armageddonism (out July 1 via Hassle Records).
It exudes an upbeat, brightly-lit essence of indie/pop punk, featuring an endless amount of fuzzy guitars and infectious chords to keep you on your feet and singing along. Celebrating heartbreak of the teenage kind, the band share:
“‘I Just Want That Movie Ending’ is a song about unrequited love – it describes the pain that is felt when the person you love most in the world doesn’t feel the same way, in fact they don’t even know you exist. The title is the heart-breaking realisation that even though you want the fairtytale ending, it will never happen as you can’t make someone fall in love with you.”
Lyrically, it feels a little like Avril Lavigne but sonically, this Blood Command track showcases their sheer ability to produce some of the edgiest indie pop hooks we’ve heard in awhile. We’re holding out for the day that Nikki brings her new fam down under to experience it live.
