Joshua Travis Backs It Up With ‘Leviathan’ feat. Crystal Lake & Frontierer + Massive EP

Joshua Travis

Joshua Travis is not only an incredibly talented musician in the core community, but his name is also known by many, mainly because of how much he’s given to the scene over the years. Depending on which of his work you most appreciate, you’ll argue he’s either best known for his work with Emmure, Glass Cloud or The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. He’s also dabbled with bands like The Goddamn Rodeo, Monuments and When Knives Go Skyward. Regardless of where you know him from, we can all agree that this guy knows how to shred.

Just last month, Travis released a solo single via SharpTone Records, titled ‘Web of Lies‘, featuring Andy Cizek (of Monuments, Makari, Wvnderband, Termina) and Stephen Taranto (of Sydney band The Helix Nebula).

Less than a month later, the nomadic guitarist has backed it up with a second single titled ‘Leviathan‘ with a new bunch of features, namely Ryo Kinoshita of Japanese metalcore legends Crystal Lake and Chad Kapper of Scottish mathcore group Frontierer.

But before we dive into the sophomore single, there’s even more to share, and this is the real kicker. Travis has announced five-track EP No Rest coming out on March 18th, 2022 via SharpTone Records. The forthcoming release is packed with eye-watering features (over and above those listed above), including Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King, Jamie Hails and Jake Steinhauser of Polaris (our gig review here from Brisbane last night) and more – full tracklisting below.

Let’s wind back to ‘Leviathan‘ – the track is unreal. As you’d expect the technical elements are all-encapsulating. Kinoshita and Kapper engage in a mathy-duet of vocal carnage as Travis’ fingers slide up down and around the axe like a slithering snake. The single as crunchy sonically as ‘Web of Lies‘ and not only adds the vocal variation, but also a different tuning and tempo – another superb effort.
