Melbourne's heavy music scene is absolutely thriving with a plethora of acts pining to gain your attention and that's exactly what happened earlier this year when Starve unleashed their Nausea EP (our review here). From the second this hit, it was non-stop headbanging at WoS HQ and we fast became obsessed.

Since then, the boys have managed to play a couple of shows again, they also scored a well-deserved spot on UNIFY Gathering 2022 and are aiming to keep the momentum going into 2022 with new material on the horizon. But before we get there, let's take a look back at the year that was with frontman Jordan Dunbar's Year In Review....

BEST MUSIC VIDEO OF 2021

Oh that’s easily Deadlights - 'The King of Nowhere'. Ben is one of the highest quality videographers in Australia and he nailed this one. That Blade Runner 2049 style cinematography is the most gorgeous thing I’ve seen since Blade Runner 2049.

LAST GIG YOU PLAYED BEFORE COVID HIT?

Last gig we played AM//PM with our good mates in Ocean Sleeper and Outloved. What a sick show that was and the response we got was unreal.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT RETURNING TO THE STAGE?

Super stoked. Extremely nervous about getting back on the horse but after our first practice the other day, it feels good to get back into it and I think this year will be the best we’ve had in a long time.

HOW DID YOU STAY BUSY THROUGHOUT THE PAST TWO YEARS?

Attempting to stay fit, cooking, sleeping and the entire Resident Evil series.

BEST ADVICE GOING INTO 2022?

Just try to not let all the good releases over the next year get washed into the background. Really appreciate the music that everyone will be busting out over the next 6 months and keep in mind that most of them haven’t been able to express themselves in 2 years. This next period of music I feel will be one of the best and most emotionally packed era’s of our lives.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2022?

Unify is absolutely at the top of the list. We are so excited to be able to play a festival we’ve attended year after year and grace the stage so many of our biggest inspirations have played. We’re also excited to finally take off on our first real back to back “tour” and go to new places that we’ve never played before. Releasing new music is also a plus 👀
