The Amity Affliction Drop Infectiously Heavy Single 'Like Love'

As far as diverse musical progression goes - The Amity Affliction have certainly taken deep dives into new territory countless times throughout their career and every time they drop a hint of a sound we're familiar with - we get a short, nostalgic hit that many of us didn't know we needed!
Over the past few years, Amity have honed in on their highly infectious choruses with clean vocalist Ahren Stringer holding onto notes which invoke something in your body to sing along with him. Their new single 'Like Love' is another perfect example of that practice in action which will have you belting out the words "drop it on your tongue like loooooove" in no time! But if you're an unclean vocal enthusiast, there's plenty of sections where you can scream alongside Joel Birch as he belts out his own raw emotions through his oesophagus. There's a breakdown that utilises the heavy bass and synth sounds throughout the track to its advantage, giving it a much bigger oomph than anticipated!
I'll be the first to admit, I wasn't a fan of the synth on Misery (at first), but I've since grown to appreciate the band's inclusion of it with all of their releases from there onwards.
In terms of similar sounds from the back catalogue, 'Like Love' took me straight back to that end section of 'All My Friends Are Dead' where the tempo slows down and Joel's screams are slow, yet precise. The synth in this throwback to the Misery-era, but the production and hard tone is well and truly a continuation of Everyone Loves You... Once You Leave Them. No word on if this is part of a bigger scheme of things (like that rumoured EP) or another two-track B-Side release like the 'Midnight Train'/'Don't Wade in The Water' release from last year, but once we now, you'll know more too!
It's going to be a pretty busy end of year for The Amity Affliction - with more new material on the way in time for their headline set at UNIFY Gathering 2022 (which Ahren told us all about during the livestream) and their postponed Everyone Loves You Aussie Tour - which has now been pushed back to February 2022 (new dates here)
