Trivium Deliver The Goods with ‘In The Court Of The Dragon’

How much awsomeness can you fit into one song? Well Trivium have played their hand with new track ‘In The Court Of The Dragon‘ which is not only a return to their Ascendency era, but it also features an epic intro composed and orchestrated by the one and only Ihsahn (Emperor).

When discussing the song’s origins and purpose, bassist Paolo Gregoletto says:

“We started putting together the riffs for what would become ‘In the Court of the Dragon’ last year with no touring on the horizon… We decided to use the uncertainty to our advantage and to create without any of the limitations and commitments that would normally be eating away at our time in the jam room… Being free to create the story and write the music without a deadline, due to a once-in-a-lifetime event, really led to one of the most rewarding writing and recording experiences we have ever had.

Stacks of bands have had nothing but free time lately and when you have creative minds like our muscials heroes, it’s hard to just switch them off – so releasing music (just for the sake of feeding the fuel) is a fantastic way to not onyl keep your band going, but to remain relevant during these unpredicatable times.

In The Court Of The Dragon‘ was inspired by the short story by Robert W. Chambers which, as Paolo adds is:

“…filled with dread and uncertainty, and that felt fitting for the times we’ve all been living in for the last year. Rather than a direct re-telling, we decided to go a different route and build our own narrative around the music that we were creating.”

The end result? Is an absolute killer track with also includes a 9 minute visual aspect proving Trivium are not only at the top of their game musically, but also creating a legacy that spans further than the heavy metal genre. Having just released their latest album What The Dead Men Say in April 2020 (our review here), it’s exciting to see the boys already working on new music and planning ahead for the road trip after COVID.
