Sydney Metalcore Act Elision Unveil Forthcoming EP & Debut New Song ‘The Wretched of the Earth’
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Australian heavy music (especially metal/deathcore) is on fire at the moment. Take a look at any Capital City and no doubt you’ll be able to finger point your new fav heavy upcomer and these early years are the best time to jump on board, you know, for bragging rights in years to come!
Elision have been in our sights for a little while now and today they’ve got some news that most of us have been eagerly anticipating. Their new EP There’s More To Us Than You and I is set for release on June 18th and to celebrate, they’ve dropped a banging new track for us all to get our mosh on to! ‘The Wretched of the Earth‘ is a fast and furious assault on the senses lead by Lachlan Boundy‘s rough as guts vocals/squeals and the completely mind-warping guitar tones of Olli Clark alongside bassist Elliot Koroneos and drumming machine Kofi Badu.
On the new single, guitarist Olli told us:
“‘The Wretched of the Earth’ is centred around the personal experience of someone else’s hate. It is one thing to just hear about a group or person being unjustly oppressed, but to actually endure someone else’s intolerance is often a dehumanizing experience, and it’s difficult to truly wrap your head around if it is not you being targeted. The song is about fighting back, turning what was one’s chains into whips with which to lash out, and finding strength in the unity of collective resistance.”
As for their forthcoming EP There’s More To Us Than You and I, the band went deep explaining the themes surrounding its five tracks:
“There’s More To Us Than You and I is centred around the notion that there is more going on in a given relation than immediately meets the eye. Whether it be two people, a whole community, an institution or even a global network, the “us” is never simply the sum of its component parts, but rather it includes a multitude of social mores, taboos, unspoken processes and ideologies. The EP is thus, first and foremost, a warning against reductionism.
We are oversimplifying things when we consider our relation to someone or something as simply the combination of ourselves and the other. When we perceive a group of people, consider an ideology, or even simply observe a political process, we have to really work hard to remind ourselves that there are countless undercurrents that influence each decision, perception and position, it’s never as simple as it seems. This oversimplification can be disastrous for the way minority groups are treated and perceived, as has been exemplified in the past year.
Put simply, the whole is more than the sum of its parts.”
