Sink Your Teeth Into Onslow’s Brand New Banger ‘Gauze’
When Perth’s Onslow released their debut single ‘Let Me Rust’, they struck a chord with music fans across various genres who either followed Sean Harmanis via Make Them Suffer or Scott Kay from his Voyager duties OR those who just loved the track’s groove-laden post-grunge sound which transported us way back to the 90s nostalgic vibes of bands like Deftones and Smashing Pumpkins.
When we asked about the response so far for their debut single, Scott Kay told Wall of Sound:
“The response to ‘Let Me Rust’ has been massively positive, and I’m stoked to see so many people embracing the fact that we’re exploring something a little different musically for Sean and I.”
It was an instant win and since then the band have signed with Greyscale Records, something all parties were stoked about according to label owner/beard goals Josh Merriel:
“When Sean & Scott first shared ‘Let Me Rust’ with us, we knew they had something special, and gave the best advice we could from the sidelines and encouraged their growth as an independent act… The response to, and the way the scene embraced, that first single was amazing to see, and there was definitely more than one proud dad moment had. We know this has incredible potential to not be seen as just a ‘side project’, but as a standalone and powerful band in its own right.”
With signing under the belts, and a debut self-titled EP on the way (July 2nd) the boys are back with their next offering ‘Gauze‘ which, much like ‘Let Me Rust‘ has a decent combination of both clean vocals and screams from Sean, but the guitars in this are just so tight, you’d be mistaken for thinking you’ve once again been taken back to the 90s/early 2000s alt-rock/post-hardcore at times.
On the new single Scott Kay tells us:
“‘Gauze’ is a personal favourite track of ours, as it features some nice dynamic shifts and a singalong chorus. We hope you like it as much you liked our first track!”
These guys really are trying new things musically and not following a specific sound and it’s so refreshing to witness as a new fan. It’s like watching your new fav band grow up right in front of you. If you like the angsty sounds of bands like Introvert, La Dispute and The Getaway Plan all rolled into one, then you need to jump on Onslow‘s latest banger right now!
