Bowling For Soup Have Still Got It with New Bop ‘Getting Old Sucks (But Everyone’s Doing It)’

When I think of Bowling For Soup, I hark back to songs like ‘1985’, ‘High School Never Ends’ and ‘Punk Rock 101’ that acted like the anthems to our pubescent teenage days and when life was just that, fun. They’re secretly everyone’s favourite and “cheesiest pop punk band”, became the soundtrack to Disney’s Phineas & Ferb and have been biding their time on the sidelines for awhile now, so it’s about time we found out what they’ve been up to.

The band have just unleashed their brand new single, ‘Getting Old Sucks (But Everyone’s Doing It)’ and yes, they’re still putting the cheese into punk rock. The boys who still don Dickies and new Vans in their 50s (no judgement) are embracing their old age and everything that comes with growing older (like that waistline that doesn’t seem to go away).

‘Getting Old Sucks’ is a catchy tongue-in-cheek anthem which proves that vocalist Jaret Reddick hasn’t lost his lyrical charm one bit. Pulling out all the stops with lines like:

“We used to run wild in the streets now we complain
When cars drive too fast and the music is insanely loud”

To questioning out loud the line on every Millennial’s lips over the age of 30:

“What the fuck is TikTok?”

But I think he’s summed it up perfectly with:

“The truth is, getting old sucks but we’re doing it right!”

While Bowling For Soup’s music probably isn’t for everyone, you can’t help but enjoy their tunes for what it is. Catchy, energetic, punk rock that manages to touch the surface of anyone who cares to listen. If you loved songs like ‘1985’ (which funnily enough, is beginning to make its own rounds on TikTok) then you’ll probably be into ‘Getting Old Sucks’ as well.

But wait, there’s more! Word on the street is, this is the first track off of the band’s forthcoming album. More on that soon though…
