Hacktivist Reinvent Themselves for ‘Reprogram’

Who else has been getting into UK nu-metal act Hacktivist so much this year? Just me? Surely not. These guys have been on fire since unleashing singles ‘Armoured Core’ and ‘Planet Zero’, and it seems the band are looking to turn a new leaf with these songs and forthcoming album Hyperdialect this June.

While the band’s third single ‘Reprogram’ isn’t actually a fresh take given it was originally released in 2019, the Hyperdialect version seems to feel a little more alive and takes on the song’s feelings more. The heaviness has been turned down ever so slightly, and on this updated mix there’s definitely more of a techy vibe which adds a nice lyrical contrast. Presenting industrial metal with a DJenty feel to it, ‘Reprogram’ 2.0 packs a punch and the guitars are still ever so chunky.

Hacktivist co-vocalist Jot Maxi shares his thoughts on the song’s new mix:

“There’s a double meaning to this one. Society needs reprogrammed, Hacktivist has been reprogrammed, so if you’re listening and you’re vibing out to it, have a little think about what you might need to do in your own life to reprogram – to make yourself like yourself better, or to have less regret.

“Society needs a reboot, our band has had a reboot, so why don’t you? At the same time, it’s got this little science fiction story within it, about a future that breaks down and actually needs reprogrammed from zero. In an ideal world, hopefully, we will have all reprogrammed before anything like that happens to us for real.”

We all need to take the time to reflect and reinvent ourselves to feel more like ourselves, and if ‘Reprogram’ did just that for the band, I am all for this Hacktivist reboot, if you will. Maybe the song will also get you on that self-reflecting train too. But you do you!
