Wall of Sound presents: “2020 YEAR IN REVIEW” – by Wall of Sound Loyal Reader Lili Berry

It’s time to highlight another legend in our scene and if you haven’t come across Lili yet, then your life isn’t complete! An absolute champion for Australia music, Lil can usually be found front row centre at her fav acts (including Tonight Alive and The Veronicas) but also behind-the-scenes working with some impressive upcomers like Infinite Illusion!

Take a look at her hot take from the year that was, and the heavy, errr, I mean some of the heavy tunes she frothed (in amongst the plethora of pop anthems) she lost her shit over!

TOP 10 RELEASES OF 2020?

I couldn’t decide this so I took it straight from my most played on Apple Music:

10. Notes On A Conditional Form by The 1975
9. The Death Of Me by Polaris
8. Kaliyuga by In Hearts Wake
7. A Lunar Rose by Saviour
6. Flip Phone Fantasy by Ocean Grove

5. Post Human: Survival Horror by Bring Me The Horizon
4. Folklore and Evermore by Taylor Swift
(she counts them as ‘sister’ albums so I get to have them both as one – Don’t @ me)
3. Self Care by Yours Truly
2. How To Survive A Funeral by Make Them Suffer
1. Petals for Armor by Hayley Williams

I wrote this list out then changed it because TayTay dropped a bloody second album? Like honestly girl be more perfect? I also was shocked at how this list was so vastly different to what I expected. Not as heavy as I thought. I definitely wanted a new album by The Veronicas in there but I guess that’s one marked off from 2021 if it ever comes out.

The real winner here is that dang Hayley album. Honestly if you haven’t listened, do yourself a favour, open your mind and let it in. It’s so different to what I ever imagined she would do next and the songs and her diversity speaks for itself. Thank you, Ms Williams. Forever my number 1.

TOP 10 SONGS OF 2020?

To keep this fun and interesting I’m not going to pick any songs that are on any albums listed above.

10. ‘Frenemies’ by Terra
9. ‘Steps Society’ by While She Sleeps
8. ‘Biting My Tongue’ by The Veronicas
7. ‘Rain On Me’ by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande
(don’t even try to come for me, it’s perfect and you know it)
6. ‘Monsters’ by Dream State

5. ‘DMU’ by Bad/Love
4. ‘Absence’ by Infinite Illusion
3. ‘Figure 8′ by Trophy Eyes
2. ‘Animals’ by Architects
1. ‘Level Of Concern’ by Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots get the top spot just for this moment alone:

A wholesome banger, written and recorded and filmed completely in iso all by their dang selves including the whole fam. Honestly this band can do no wrong.

BEST MUSIC VIDEO OF 2020?

‘Hellbringer’In Hearts Wake (because I’m in it for literally 1.5 seconds – but also it’s just awesome)

LAST GIG YOU SAW BEFORE COVID

The Brave supported by BAD/LOVE. First gig back was BAD/LOVE at Stay Gold as like a cute poetic full circle and it felt just as good as I remember!

BIGGEST THING YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF IN 2020

That if you work hard enough and manifest your dreams, they will become a reality! This year I got the job of my dreams from spending years working towards that one goal. I am so happy, I feel blessed every day and it’s allowed me to stay hella positive throughout the most challenging of times.

NEXT BIG AUSSIE BAND TO WATCH IN 2021?

Infinite Illusion! But seriously brace yourselves.

FAV NEW BAND YOU DISCOVERED IN 2020?

Bloom. Thank you to my dear Adam Rice for putting them on my radar!

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2021?
