Here at Wall of Sound HQ, we’ve come across quite a few bands this year who’ve formed in the midst of COVID, and huge props to them for that. It can’t be an easy feat creating momentum for a new band in this climate. Melbourne upcomers Paperweight have grown from strength to strength since they dropped their debut single ‘Waster’ earlier this year, and they’re quickly rising the ranks in the Australian pop punk scene. The band are now back with their fourth single, ‘Stuck Out Stateside’ and I reckon they’ve saved the best for last.

‘Stuck Out Stateside‘ sounds almost as if your peak pop punk years are on steroids. Brimming with catchy riffs, summer-soaked melodies throwing back to your youth, Paperweight are set to become the poster kids of your summer with their infectious singalong choruses. The song is calling back to good times and memories that lasted a life time, so we thought we’d get the band to share their favourite memories from before the world shut down.

Haris Dillinger (vocalist):
The smell of a sweat cocktail radiating from your body after emerging from a mosh pit—it seems so far away, in this new world of enhanced hygiene importance.

Luana TG (guitarist):
Sweaty moshpits and being at the barrier with (literally) a thousand people squished around you in a tiny room! I honestly can’t wait for that to come back! (Except for when I’m used as an armrest because I’m 4’8″ – get off me)

Tom Ballinger (guitarist):
We used to have to come up with real excuses to cancel on plans (and not just “Covid”) – crazy!

Basil February (drums):
Being able to go out and buy a good coffee and seeing family and friends without worrying about travel limits!

Finally, we also wanted to see what the band have got up their sleeves for the year ahead (maybe an opening slot on Stand Atlantic’s upcoming tour?), because this won’t be the last you see and hear from Paperweight, that’s for sure…

Continue recording and releasing bangers, finally play our first shows, tour Australia, world pop punk domination, and all that! We just wanna get this show on the road!
