Don’t Panic, But SKYWAY Are Making A Comeback!!!
Holy Shit. We’ve been reporting about Gold Coast pop punk legends Skyway‘s possible return to the music scene since July last year when rumours started circulating the lads were back in the studio again and now it seems like we’re a massive step forward towards hearing what they’ve been working on after the guys dropped a couple of teasers last week about new music on the way.
Firstly, a video was released with a new riff and the words “I’m still trying to hang on to you “
Then a new profile photo on the band’s social media popped up featuring the lads (with newcomer Rupert Muir) alongside the tagline “Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t get more fucked up…” and now we’re keen as fuuuuuuck for what they announce next…
For those not in the know, Skyway were fast coming up the ranks around the same time Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction and Tonight Alive were, but sadly life got in the way and the boys had to take a long break to focus on growing up and being adults. Not only were they kings in the Gold Coast’s heavy music scene, but they played some hefty shows across the country in support of some BIG TIME acts and were destined for huge things.
Back in 2017, I caught up with guitarist Ron Chant for a chat about the band’s hiatus and he was very adamant on the fact they wouldn’t be getting back together anytime soon revealing it’d take:
“A good lump of money, much more than we’re worth… and free piss… or maybe like a New Found Glory support slot or something… at the Tivoli”
But now, after reaching out to Ron again more than 3 years later, he seems to have changed his stance on that previous statement:
“We’ve got back together, recorded a few songs and a few other treats that will be out in the next two months”
Take those words as you will but with all the evidence stacking up, it seems 2020 is about to get a whole lot better in the second half with the reunion we all didn’t know we needed. We took a plunge earlier this year and chucked Skway at #4 in our Top 15 Aussie Pop Punk Bands list with the hope they’d be releasing new material somewhere during the year, and now, that hope looks certain to become a reality…
BRB… just going to thrash their album Finders Keepers all week…
