Powderfinger Drop First New Song In 10 Years 'Day By Day'
It's hard to believe its almost been 11 years since Brisbane's beloved Powderfinger dropped their last album Golden Rule and then called it a day... but if there's one thing we've learned about the boys in that time, it's that you can't keep a great Aussie act down AND the boys love a good song with the word Day in the title.
Here we are with Bernard Fanning, John "JC" Collins, Steven Bishop, Ian Haug, Jon Coghill and Darren Middleton all back on deck for 'Day By Day', an upbeat bop about surviving, you guessed it, day by day and in these troubled times, that's something we just need to hear to get us through and if there's one band that's going to deliver us hope through this pandemic, it's the Finger!!
But it turns out, this track was originally written for the band's 2003 album Vulture Street according to vocalist Bernard Fanning:
“Day by Day was never completed until we opened the archives and went sniffing around for tracks that had never been released,” “we never even really had a rough mix of it as we had obviously decided at the time that it didn’t quite fit with the rest of the songs on that album. Looking back now, I’m not sure why and I’m actually amazed we didn’t find a place for it on the record. Once we found it, we had Nick Didia remix it and get it into shape. “Like a few other songs on Vulture Street, it deals with the temporary nature of life and is a call to live in the moment, to be present".
Word has it this song is the first from an album of unreleased tracks which is set for release this year. We'll keep you posted as soon as more news comes out about it. Keep your eye on the band's YouTube account which will be premiering their video at 5:15pm AEST this afternoon with the band conducting a Q&A prior (video below)
Until then, suss the song out on Spotify or Apple Music or your fav streaming site here
