Oh damn. OH DAMN! In Hearts Wake have just released a new song for the first time in three years and it is so powerful we are shaking. ‘Worldwide Suicide‘ comes at a pivotal moment in our Earth’s life with the Coronavirus taking over and distracting us from what is actually going to kill us – ecocide: harmful human activity that violates the principles of environmental integrity and balance. This includes damaging or destroying ecosystems, and harming the health and well-being of a species.
‘The Antarctic has reached an all time high temperature of 20.7°C. The Australian bushfires have burned over 12 million hectares of land, killing over 1 billion animals. The Climate Crisis is pounding on our door and we need to take action while there is still a window to turn it around. It’s time for profound systemic change as individuals and as a community.’ says IHW’s Jake Taylor.
Of the track itself, we’re hearing major The Prodigy vibes in the intro featuring a sample of Greta Thunberg‘s address at the Climate Strike in NYC last year. Paired with visuals of a house on fire with each room featuring a human from every stage of life under threat. Look, it’s confronting and quite powerful. And what’s even more powerful? The lyrics and their delivery.
Music is both our art and our platform. I feel we have a responsibility as artists to challenge the status quo. What challenges has the potential to create change. If we can change, then we can evolve.’ says Taylor.
Now, In Hearts Wake have always been advocates for the Earth, they’ve instigated many a beach clean up day, and now we have more action from our metal Eco-warriors. The band have committed to plant one native tree for every 1K views, so everyone, let’s share this around. This is a call for action.
