Polaris Call Out Homophobic Show Attendees In Sydney

Firstly, when I woke up and saw what happened overnight on Twitter, I was furious and saddened for Polaris after what was supposed to be a huuge career highlight for the band, playing to a Sold Out home town crowd at the Enmore… but the night was left with a stain after attendees (I’m not calling them fans because fuck you if you were the scum who did this) left the venue post-show for the bar next door and proceeded to spit on and insult the drag queen attendees there, who were obviously in town for Mardi Gras.

The band were quick to call out the behaviour and explain if you’re the ones involved doing this, they don’t want you at their shows in future:

I can’t commend the boys enough for jumping in as soon as they could with this matter and I absolutely feel for them this morning after what should have been one of the best nights of their career so far.

As someone who hid his sexuality for 30 years, this is the kind of fucking behaviour that kept me in the dark and didn’t allow me to be my true self. So I can only imagine how those on the receiving end of this vile behaviour felt, in what was supposed to be a safe place for every member of the LGBTI community this weekend.

For the most part, our scene is very inclusive and welcoming on the best of days, it’s these blow-ins that tend to ruin it for the rest of us all keen to have a good time.

Call this shit out as much as you can, look out for each other and put an end to shit scumbags like this going to shows.
