Wall of Sound presents: “2019 YEAR IN REVIEW” – by Wall of Sound Photographer Kim Anderson
2019 has really dragged. The highlights of my year mostly revolve around Gerard Way: Netflix turned ‘The Umbrella Academy’ into a series which I love/hate, the 3rd installment of The Umbrella Academy comics came out and then My Chemical Romance suddenly reunited and are touring next year…except I’m here stuck in Perth and I hate festivals. Can someone please just fly Gerard over for a comic book signing? This was also my worst year yet for music photography. Chronic neck pain is fucking brutal so I only shot 5 shows this year but the highlight was having The Superjesus use one of my photos in the SUMO 20 (LIVE) Vinyl release. I really wanted to include their new song ‘The Impossible’ in my Top 10 but I can’t on principle. I was born on the day man walked on the moon and this year was the 50th anniversary, I can’t have them singing it didn’t happen!

BEST GIGS YOU’VE SEEN 2019?
I’m gonna be straight with you…I’m not one of these genre-elitist-snobs that can’t like pop music because Bananarama were amazing. My inner 8 year old was loving it. I can’t say the same for the opening act that night though. Watching Amber perform was like watching your 60yr old aunt sing karaoke.
Also, Scalphunter at Adventure World was the gig I didn’t know I needed to see. BEST LIGHTING I’VE EVER SEEN IN PERTH. At a waterpark. Perth venues need to get their shit together (the video was shot at that show)
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2020?
Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes touring in January. That’s it. Don’t talk to me about My Chemical Romance coming to Australia, I might cry.
