Perth Post-Hardcore Band Statues Are Calling It A Day
It’s a sad day for Perth’s heavy music scene with post-hardcore outfit Statues announcing they’re calling it quits are a decade of making music. The band reflected on their career, including highlights from the start, the many iterations of members and ended with a big thank you to the fans who supported them along the way.
In a lengthy post on Facebook, the band revealed the news stating:
This month marks ten years of being a band, but after three iterations of members, a demo, a 7”, a 10”, and two albums, 2019 will be our last.
When Statues started, we had no idea that anyone would care even in the slightest about what we were making. But we were embraced with so much love from Perth’s music scene it was overwhelming. Nothing will compare to the feeling of seeing people screaming lyrics back to us from the pit; songs that were from our very first demo.
The experiences we got to have playing with some of our idols, and all of our best friends, will forever be a part of us as people, and we can’t thank you enough for giving us these memories. It’s going to be wild recounting in our old age the time when Matt’s strap broke and his bass smashed into three pieces, the time Scott failed a guitar toss and cracked the back of his head open, the time Dan threw up on his own snare drum in Adelaide, that one gig where Duncan suddenly couldn’t make it, so with absolutely no rehearsal, our friend Jake filled in on drums for a show… Hell, the list is a mile long and none of this would have happened had you all not supported us.
A huge thank you to all past members, Mike, Duncan, Jim & Dan for the massive contribution you all made to the band, thank you to the bands we’ve played with, and mostly, thank you to everyone who bought a shirt, came to a show, yelled into a microphone, and embraced the stupid things we did as a band.
We’ll be announcing a final show soon, so please stay tuned for that. And we will also do our last ever Christmas card. Please PM us if you’d like one, and please leave a story you recall from a show we played!
Much love from Tempe, Scott, John, Alex and Matt
Statues (2009-2019)
We last covered the band during their support slot for The Brave earlier in the year (our gallery here) but have bee following the band for quite some time with one of their most memorable shows from the back catalogues of WoS being their hometown show alongside Cursed Earth, Ratking and Momento Mori (revisit that here).
We wish the boys all the best with their future endeavours and you better believe we’ll be hitting up that final show… Stay tuned for more details!
