Every year I’m sure critical of both the ARIAs in Australia and the Grammys in the states and I know I shouldn’t be (or care), but fuck it, it’s my thing and I have to… Bt overnight the Nominees for the 2020 Grammy Awards came out and as we do every year, I’ll go through the nominees for the heavy/metal/hard rock categories and offer my predictions for who I think will take out the golden door stopper and this year, they’ve done pretty good with their nominations, so it may be harder to guess.
Best Metal Performance
Last year it saw High of Fire taking out the top spot and this year we’ll see the likes of Candlemass Featuring Tony Iommi (Astorolus – The Great Octopus), Death Angel (Humanicide), I Prevail (Bow Down), Killswitch Engage (Unleashed) and Tool‘s (7empest) all competing to take out the metal category.
My Prediction: Due to sheer hype surrounding their return, I’m gonna say Tool will take this out, but personally I’d love to see I Prevail take home a win for everybody who doubted…
Best Rock Song
Next we’ve got the Best Rock Song which was taken out by St. Vincent ‘Masseduction’ who beat BMTH, twenty one pilots and Ghost last year.
This time around we’ll see Tool‘s ‘Fear Inoculum taking on The 1975, Vampire Weekend, Gary Clark Jr. and Brittany Howard.
My Prediction: Surely Tool has this in the bag too right?
Best Rock Album
Lastly we have a mixed bag for the Best Rock Album with Bring Me The Horizon scoring their second nomination for amo (best rock though!?) alongside Cage The Elephant (Social Cues), The Cranberries (In The End), I Prevail (Trauma) and Rival Sons (Feral Roots).
My Prediction: Come onnnn BMTH, second time lucky! Although, The Cranberries may score a posthumous win for their final release with frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan‘s final vocal recordings prior to her passing in 2018.
The awards take place on January 26 (January 27th our time) so stay tuned for the winners then!
