BABYMETAL Drop New Song/Video ‘Shanti Shanti Shanti’

Sooooo, that new BABYMETAL album METAL GALAXY will be released on October 11th and to get us ready for it they’ve unveiled yet another new song from it called ‘Shanti Shanti Shanti‘ and, well, upon first listen, it’s ok I guess.

It seems they’ve taken influence from other cultures this time around and incorporated what sounds like a Bollywood themed musical backing behind the girls singing and the metal sound but to me, it takes away from what we all fell in love with, with this band, their iconic Japanese sound…

I’ve loved this band since an amazing woman named Janine first told me about them and their first album, but since then I’ve slowly started to lose my passion for their new music with each song that comes out, as they steer away from that original sound, and it’s not even about progression, it’s just they’re becoming too influenced by Western Culture and losing that Japanese connection that made them so different (e.g. incorporating English lyrics to songs which in translation don’t sound as great as the original native lyrics).

I could be wrong though, I haven’t heard the new album yet so once that comes out we’ll know if they’ve ventured away from that original idea again, but if this is an indication of what’s on the album, I’m not in a rush to hear it. However Joakim Brodén from Sabaton and Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy do make cameos on it so I’ll maybe hold out for those songs first!

Our review is coming soon so stay tuned for that…
