Tapestry Farewells Darwin
Entrada, Darwin NT
September 7th, 2019
Support: Vacant Home, Wildheart, We Burn Bridges and DRAFTDAY

While I don't exactly call Darwin home (I've only been up in this part of Australia for a year now), during my time here I have gotten to discover there is plenty of love and passion for alternative/heavy music. So when the biggest band in the Top End's heavy music scene announces their final show in the hometown (for a while!), you know it's going to be one massive, wild send off for the Darwin boys. Tapestry have had their biggest year to date, with a slot on the Top End's BASS in the GRASS festival (our review here), as well as a tour up and down the east coast of Australia with bands like The Beautiful Monument.

To send off the boys with one last hurrah, we had a pretty epic line-up on the night. Joined by local upcoming acts, DRAFTDAY and We Burn Bridges, who both have proven to us that they're definitely worth keeping on our radar. It's going to be an interesting journey for both bands, in particular, We Burn Bridges, whose guitarist Ben Masters is off to Melbourne with Tapestry. The Bridges boys have also lost their drummer recently, which meant that Ben moved over to drums, and bassist Manolis Kamitsis stepped up to guitars for this gig. Besides Tapestry, We Burn Bridges definitely brought the biggest party tonight, with their brand of metalcore bringing the craziest circlepits of the night.

Tapestry also invited their interstate pals to the party for the weekend. It's a rare occurrence to see bands from other cities (fuck those flights aye!) play up here, but Brisbane boys Wildheart brought their A-game tonight. Wildheart frontman Axel Best seemed super keen to be up in the Top End and got amongst by bringing the stage to the pit and connecting with the crowd, who were definitely fans by the end of their set. Perth melodic hardcore band Vacant Home also made the long trek up north to get amongst the festivities. I felt like these guys brought a different kinda vibe to the evening, much like local boys DRAFTDAY did with their alternative rock tunes. Vacant Home's hardcore punk jams definitely added to the musical diversity that evening.

Fun little fact about tonight's Tapestry show... my first gig in Darwin was actually Tapestry at the very same venue as tonight! What was different about tonight however, was that I was way more familiar with their music as well as having a decent social circle on the night. Tapestry's final set in the Top End involved everything from circle pits, crowdsurfing inflatable seahorses and... a row boat mosh pit?! The boys smashed through their hits like 'Ghost', 'Love/Deception' and my favourite Tapestry song ever, 'Dark Shade', which was lapped up the band's family, friends and the entire NT music community one final time.

The guys also gave us a sneak peek into the future of Tapestry and what they'll be working towards once they relocate to Melbourne. We grabbed the full live version of an upcoming song that is still yet to be named! Featuring a little more synth, yet it's still the familiar melodic metal sound we know from the boys. Give it a suss below and maybe throw in some song title ideas on Tapestry's socials!

It has been such a wonderful ride getting to know Tapestry in their local scene since I've been up here, and I wish Tom, Luke, Darcy, Ben and Conor nothing but the absolute best of luck with their upcoming Melbourne adventure. The guys have already lined up some of their biggest shows to date up and down the east coast of Australia so get involved...
