Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine Diagnosed With Throat Cancer
Oh man, it’s been a rough year for our ageing metal heroes. First Ozzy Osbourne had to pull out of shows and Download Festival Australia due to a pneumonia scare which had everyone on the edge of their seats and now Megadeth‘s Dave Mustaine has revealed he’s been diagnosed with throat cancer which has seen the band stalling the majority of the shows they had lined up for the year.
In a lengthy post on Instagram, Dave revealed the news to fans:
I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on – but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.
Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will happen, and the band will be a part of it in some form. All up to date information will be at megadeth.com as we get it. Megadeth will be back on the road ASAP.
Meanwhile, Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to Dystopia – which I can’t wait for everyone to hear.
I’m so thankful for my whole team – family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more.
I’ll keep everyone posted.
This isn’t the first time metal fans have been waiting with baited breath for one of their heroes to come out the other side of a cancer scare, Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson survived having a golf ball sized lump on his tongue back in 2014 when we went through his own cancer battle and he came out the other side alright too. So we’re all thinking of Dave during this difficult time.
