Melbourne rock/metal outfit Rumours have had a pretty epic start to their career as a band. After releasing their debut EP in 2017, they played some huge gigs with the likes of Northlane, Polaris and In Hearts Wake. Now they’ve gone and dropped their new single ‘Paralysed’ (which is an absolute banger by the way!) so we grabbed guitarist Harry Coote for a quick chat about their hopes and dreams.
‘Paralysed’ is your first music released since 2017’s debut EP Lost Together. Has the long wait in between releases been good for the band?
Yeah I think so! It has given us time to enjoy our release of Lost Together a bit more and get to see a couple more places before being in the studio.
You worked with your good mates in Windwaker (Chris Lalic) for this single. Who’d be your dream EP/album producer if given the opportunity?
Landon Tewers from The Plot in You for sure! We are all such huge fans of him.
Now I gotta ask – where’s the inspiration behind the band name? Who came up with the band name?
The name was just something that had been tossed around at band practice, we couldn’t agree on a band name for weeks and we needed one for our first show so when Rumours was said it just kinda clicked.
You’ve supported some pretty huge bands in Australia in your time being a band so far! What’s been your most memorable show in the last 12 months?
For us all it’s always the hometown shows we put on. To see from where we started to where we are now is so surreal and there always seems to be more people coming along. But as a personal one I also loved supporting Trophy Eyes.
Who’s someone you’d love to play a gig with?
It’s different for all of us! We all have that one band that we’d love to play a show with some day. Mine are probably the obvious ones like Bring Me The Horizon and A Day To Remember.
Finally – name a place in Australia you haven’t played yet, that you’d be stoked to play one day and why?
Brisbane particularly is one we want to tackle one day. We have all heard great things about it and want to go see for ourselves.
Fingers crossed we’ll see you guys at Big Sound this September then!
