The Getaway Plan – Gig Review & Photo Gallery 8th February @ Manning Bar, Sydney NSW

The Getaway Plan + Dream On Dreamer
Manning Bar, Sydney NSW
February 8th, 2019
Supports: Ocean Sleeper and Sienna Skies

Show number three on a massive 10 date tour for The Getaway Plan, Dream On Dreamer & Ocean Sleeper saw all three bands deliver the goods. It’s not often you see 150 people there for the opening band but that’s what Sydney locals Sienna Skies walked on stage to. From the first song, ‘till last, they put on a performance that was heavy hitting, tight & powerful. With the crowd having a sing along to track ‘Widow‘, the room was full of devoted voices.

Ocean Sleeper from Melbourne were up next and despite some technical guitar issues, they were still able to put on a stellar performance. Their razor sharp guitar tones really cut through the crowd with precision. Not a lot of bands can pull off a live show without a bass player but these guys really knew how to work around that. Singer Karl Spiessl used as much of the stage as possible, even coming down to the barrier to throw the mic in fans faces that were screaming lyrics back at them in numbers.

By the time Dream On Dreamer took to the stage, the entire crowd was ready for the show to get kicked into 12th gear and they did just that. Coming straight out opening with ‘Let It In’ and having the whole crowd singing back at them put smiles on all their dials and from there on in it was nothing but high energy and stage dominance from there. Vocalist Marcel Gadacz and backing vocalist/guitarist Zachary Britt had the whole rooms arms up and hands clapping along in the first 10 minutes and continued to receive massive crowd participation until they left the stage. Playing a wide range of old and new tracks kept the crowd fully engulfed in the experience. Throwing it back to 2015, Zach mellowed out the crowd with a beautiful performance their song ‘Violent Pictures‘ which saw a plethora of fans letting their voices be heard right from the back of the venue.

As The Getaway Plan set up to finish the night off, punters were shouting out in excitement right before a single guitar string had been plucked. Coming straight out the gate swinging with massive crowd participation, almost drowning them out from the roar of the pit. Only a few songs in and the entire room was lit up like the 4th of July with an amazing lights show to accompany the massive sound work being blasted from the front of house. Guitarist Clint Ellis nailed a ripping solo during the title track of their last album ‘Dark Horses‘. Matthew Wright went from singing behind the guitar to roaming all around the stage with just his mic all set which really gave the crowd a more personal experience. Throwing it back over ten years and pulling out ‘Shadows‘, 200+ voices erupted from the pit to the bar to pump the energy and really turn the show up to 11. Ending the show with crowd favourite ‘Where The City Meets The Sea‘ saw multiple crowd surfers and mosh pit enthusiasts going wild. Being summoned back with a “ONE MORE SONG” chant saw the whole room light up with smiles and crowd cheering. For a band that’s been around the traps for over 15 years, The Getaway Plan still put their everything into the show as if it was their first.

  1. Great recap.
I saw them at the Brissy show, myself.

I found it interesting that by the sounds of it, they didn’t play the alternative version of Violent Pictures at your show.
