In Hearts Wake
The Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle NSW
January 19th, 2019
Supports: Alpha Wolf, Drown This City and Set Me On Fire
Fresh from their stint at UNIFY Gathering, In Hearts Wake wrapped up their ONLY headline tour of Australia in 2019 (before they get writing again) at Newcastle’s infamous Cambridge Hotel. Joining them for a night of SOLD OUT nostalgia and setlists decided by the fans were fellow UNIFY 2019 alumni Drown This City, mega heavy hitters Alpha Wolf and locals Set Me On Fire who kicked off the festivities in fine form bringing the heavy tunes for those who came along early. Drown This City performed flawlessly with a crowd full of energetic moshers lapping up every minute of their set while Alpha Wolf opened with their heavy new single ‘No Name‘ which kept the momentum going for the duration of their short, but sweet set.
Prior to their onstage arrival, Bon Jovi’s ‘Living On a Prayer‘ welcomed the Byron Bay boys on stage where they wasted no time ripping into their Summer Setlist show which consisted of songs handpicked by fans like ‘Passage’, ‘Departure’, ‘Cottonmouth’, the classic throwback of ‘The Night Is For Hunting’, ‘Divine’, ‘Traveller’, ‘Afterglow’, ‘Wildflower’, ‘Survival’ (complete with Jake jumping in their blow up boat to play Capture the Flag across the moshpit and venue), ‘Warcry’, ‘Skydancer’ (with special guest vocals from DTC frontwoman Alex Reade jumping in where The Ghost Inside‘s Jonathan Vigil’s parts were) and wrapping things up with ‘Breakaway’, ‘Earthwalker’ and the crowd chanting fan-favourite ‘Refuge’ which resulted in the band chanting for “one more song, one more song”, unfortunately no more songs were played.
In closing the band thanked their fans and said “we’ll see you next year” hinting that they’ll be back on the road again in 2020 once they’ve had a break from extensively touring their latest album Ark and when they have some new material to showcase for us.
