The Offspring have “talked about” doing an Americana Anniversary Tour in 2019

The Offspring Americana Tour

Can you believe it’s been a week since The Offspring headlined the very first Good Things Festival in Melbourne? And how about that fucking heatwave we all endured (sorry not sorry for bringing it back up again), but that also means it’s been a week since we sat down with the one and only Noodles who gave us a very in-depth and informal interview backstage for our Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall podcast special (listen here).

Amongst the chatter of the band’s history, including why they’ll never release a biography or do a biographical movie, he also touched on the idea of the Anniversary Tours they’ve been pulling out lately. Not only did they perform Smash in full for us Australian fans, but they’ve also done a tour for their 1992 album Ignition in the past as well. Podcast host Browny brought up the subject of if they’d consider doing the special tours for any of their other albums and Noodles raised a few eyebrows when he mentioned they’d spoken about doing one for their 1998 album Americana which completely blew up after it’s initial release in November of that year.  He stated:

“We talked about maybe doing Americana, that’ll be, actually, that’s twenty years right around now, cuz it was released late in the year. So maybe we’ll do some of those [shows] next year in 2019 I don’t know, cuz ’99 was the year that it really blew up.”

And he’s not wrong, in 1999 their song ‘Pretty Fly for a White Guy‘ dominated Triple J‘s Hottest 100, kids were singing it at their school discos and everyone wanted to get a number 13 tattooed on them… no, just us? Ok then. The guys are still playing songs from the album already including the aforementioned banger, ‘Why Don’t You Get A Job?‘, ‘The Kids Aren’t Alright‘, ‘She’s Got Issues‘ and ‘Staring At The Sun‘, so it won’t take much for them to add the rest of the songs into rotation and tour that. We’ll be lining up on the night that’s for sure.

What do you reckon, keen for an Americana Anniversary Tour?
