There's some healthy competition in this year's ARIAs Hard Rock/Heavy Metal category...

Aussie Music's Night of Nights is approaching, you know the one where they don't televise Australia's Heavy Metal or Hard Rock bands because we're still considered a niche market? Thats right, the ARIAs and whether you think the awards are a good idea or a waste of time for bands within the genres we love, it still helps them get a bit of recognition so it can't all be bad right?
Well the 2018 awards have been announced and we'll let you know all the bands we think deserve an honorable mention below and pass on our predictions for the evening, starting with:

Best Rock Album
This time around the likes of Camp Cope, Courtney Barnett, Luca Brasi, DMA's and Middle Kids will compete for the pointy doorstopper.
My Prediction: Courtney Barnett has cleaned up in the past so assume history will repeat itself.

Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album
YEAHHHHHHH they nailed it this year with Polaris, Parkway Drive, DZ Deathrays, King Parrot and West Thebarton all receiving a nod in their category.
My Prediction: Parkway by a fucking mile BUT, Polaris could be the dark horse in this race.
Annnnnd thats it, no heavy/rock bands worthy of a mention in the Best Live Act category this year (Violent Soho scored a nod last year) but we will give props and congratulations to one of the hardest working musicians to kick arse over the past year, Amy Shark who has scored a whopping 9 nominations ranging from Best Female Artist to Song of the Year and the big one, Album of the Year for her debut release Love Monster which featured a duet with blink-182's Mark Hoppus.
The awards take place November 28 and will be hosted by Mr Kidman himself aka Keith Urban... so that'll keep your Mum interested.
