The AngelsFace to Face 40th Anniversary Show
Rooty Hill RSL, Sydney NSW
June 30th, 2018

One of Australia’s iconic bands playing one of the most iconic albums in full on the 40th Anniversary of its release, also being one of my favourite bands and albums this was one tour I wasn’t going to miss, given the opportunity to photograph and review it made the evening even better. A sold out Rooty Hill auditorium wasn’t quite full when The Angels took to the stage but within minutes the room was filling up fast, and by the second song it was almost at capacity.

From my position next to the sound desk I had the best spot in the house as the sound was amazing, the guitar tones of the Brewster Brothers were as fresh and clean as the day the album was released and frontman Dave Gleeson does an amazing job on vocals I’m sure Doc would approve, and his stage antics are up there with Doc’s as well, although it seems a few punters are not fans of Gleeson and on several occasions chose to voice their drunken opinion… not sure what they were expecting he’s been with The Angels since 2011….

Tonight they play the album Face To Face in its entirety to mark its 40th Anniversary and it is well received with fans young and old, most of which I’d say weren’t old enough to know of its release way back in 1978, with its timeless classics ‘Take A Long Line‘, ‘Marseilles‘, ‘After The Rain‘ and the song everyone knows ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again‘ which with its audience response of “No Way Get Fucked Fuck Off” was a great crowd pleaser, but tonight Gleeson had the audience sing the chorus while he replied “No Way Get Fucked Fuck Off” so we could feel what its like to have it yelled at us..

Set one finished and it was time for a quick intermission before they graced the stage again for a second set of classic hits and some not so familiar tunes, even with a fire alarm break and a visit from the local Fire Brigade no one was leaving until they had had there fill of classic Oz Rock…

Another great night one i’ll remember for many reasons…
