The Iron Maidens Manning Bar, Sydney NSW May 31st, 2018 Support: Gypsy
The Iron Maidens are way more than a “cover” band, they are a real tribute to the legends that are Iron Maiden, and with this being their first visit to Australia, it was sure to be a success, especially after what we witnessed.
A cold windy Thursday night in Sydney and what a lot of elitists call a “cover band” are playing, will they get the numbers they deserve? Only time will tell.
Opening the night are Sydney NWOBHM young guns Gypsy and they hit the stage at 100miles an hour and didn't stop or slow down their pace, if anything they increased in energy and speed as the ever-growing crowd filed their way in. The guys ripped through a short but punchy set of old school traditional metal and Sydney were left wanting more.
As the lights drop and true to Iron Maiden form 'DoctorDoctor' comes out of the PA with the big Sydney crowd in fine form singing along, then with their own version of 'ChurchillsSpeech', TheMaidens took to the stage to a thunderous roar. Blazing their way through 'AcesHigh', '2 Minutes to Midnight' and '22 Accacia Ave', the crowd grew louder and were digging it. What followed was a treat for all Maiden fans as the ladies blasted out hit after hit and a few “rare” tracks as well, including what would have to be the most wanted Maiden song ever to be played live 'Alexander The Great' and my personal fav 'Murders In The Rue Morgue'.
The dual guitars of CourtneyCox and Nikki Stringfield handled the work of Adrian, Davey and Janick with fine form. Wanda Ortiz and Linda McDonald took care of the Maiden rhythm section with ease keeping that Maiden gallop in tempo. Kristen Rosenburg took care of Bruce's vocals so well she too could be also known as “The Air Raid Sireness”.
Sydney was treated to an amazing night of Maiden tunes done in the way of a tribute band, not a cover band, and I’m sure none left disappointed.
