Support: Awaken I Am & Yours Truly
We The Kings celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their debut self-titled album in Sydney and we were there capturing the action. Sydney locals Yours Truly opened the show and I was pleasantly surprised, having never listened to them before. They definitely reminded me of a young Tonight Alive and they’re definitely one band to keep an eye out for this year. Next we were treated to Awaken I Am, who despite not having a full time singer anymore, killed it and got the crowd ready for the band everyone was there to see.
We The Kings have always been incredible live and last night was certainly no exception. Opening the set with their most popular and what some may call their best song, ‘Check Yes Juliet’, the crowd went freakin crazy and I can understand why (the song is a banger). Moving through the set we were treated to songs like ‘Headlines Read Out’, ‘Don’t Speak Liar’, ‘Whoa’, a kid friendly version of the story behind ‘Secret Valentine’ in the event that his daughters one day find out that their dad wrote a (really damn good) song about his first time with a girl and thanks to frontman Travis Clark, I’ll never look at Tetris the same again, ‘All Again For You’ and everyone’s (myself included) favourite ‘Skyway Avenue’.
Once they were finished with the album, they smashed out jams ‘Just Keep Breathing’ and ‘Sad Song’ before playing ‘Check Yes Juliet’ again and just like the first time, the crowd went freakin crazy for it. We The Kings are one hell of a band and put on one hell of a show.
