Behold, Heavy Music’s GRAMMY Award Winners
They call it music’s night of nights (but let’s face it, it’s not as loose as the ARIAs right?) and overnight we finally saw the winners of the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards get announced. Back in November when the Nominees were announced we couldn’t believe it but for the first time in years they actually got it right for once with bands like August Burns Red, Code Orange, Metallica, Chris Cornell and Avenged Sevenfold all receiving a nod for their contributions to heavy music.
We also tipped Chris Cornell to win posthumously for Best Rock Performance, August Burns Red or Meshuggah for Best Metal Performance, Foo Fighters for Best Rock Song and Metallica for Best Rock Album. But as it turns out or predictions were not all that shithouse…
Leonard Cohen surprisingly took out the title for Best Rock Performance for his song ‘You Want It Darker‘
Mastodon‘s ‘Sultan’s Curse‘ (from their new album Emperor of Sand) won the Best Metal Performance gong.
WE GOT ONE RIGHT: From the album Concrete and Gold, the Foo Fighters single ‘Run‘ scored the Best Rock Song (since they’re still in Australia they weren’t present to accept their award).
and The War On Drugs were handed the Best Rock Album for A Deeper Understanding.
Absent from the night was Avenged Sevenfold who rightfully staged a protest after calling out the Grammys for no longer televising the Best Rock Song award which they were up for, for their track ‘The Stage‘.
Honored. Unfortunately they have taken "Best Rock Song" off the telecast this year so we won't be attending. Maybe next time. https://t.co/GIotEyLCuK

It’s not the first time the Grammys have had a bad wrap from the rock/heavy metal community, last year they fucked up Metallica‘s performance by not turning on frontman James Hetfield‘s microphone for the entirety of his performance. In the same year the house band also disrespectfully played Metallica‘s ‘Master of Puppets‘ as former member Dave Mustaine of Megadeth walked to the stage to collect his award alongside his band mates.
So, how do you think they went this year with their winners?
