The worst kept secret in Australian Live Music has officially been confirmed. We are going to see the Australian expansion of Download Festival hit Melbourne on Saturday March 24th 2018 at Flemington Racecourse and the Lineup will be announced next Friday November 9th at 9am.
Brought to Australia by Live Nation, Unified and Secret Sounds, the plan will be to kick it off in Melbourne first with intentions to expand throughout Australia and eventually have it become a national touring festival. 28 bands will feature in the first outing with a third being local heavy acts performing over 4 Stages with plenty of food, bars and markets. So pretty much, a similar set up to Soundwave/Big Day Out. Plus it’ll be an 18+ event (sorry kids).
As the annual event grows, the organisers will plan to make it reflect the UK edition (meaning we might get multiple days and CAMPING like we hoped for here) but until then it needs support for it to even make it’s mark. We know what’s going to happen though, there won’t be a complete lineup featuring all the bands YOU want to see, because it isn’t tailored just for YOU. So try to keep your disappointed reactions to yourself and if you aren’t keen on going, there’s no need to announce it to the world… just means more tickets for the rest of us.
Check back in next week when the full line up announcement is made, we’ll have you covered, but we may already have discovered who was headlining already here.
