Gone are the days of stacks of heavy rock during the day on radio in Australia, but from the ashes has arisen a new way to get your daily dose of metal in the form of The Faction, a new online heavy metal radio station set up by Tim Price and Stephen Green from Collision Course. A project they’ve been developing for some time now finally got it’s official release today and they couldn’t be more stoked. Offering music lovers the chance to hear some of the best local and international bands, some prizes and goodies along the way and an app so you can get all of this in one handy location, and yes it’s available on iOS and Android. Speaking to Collision Course manager Tim Price, we delved more into the idea to find out why you should download it today:
Mate congrats on The Faction, what a great concept. Where did the idea come from?
“Came from (Stephen) Greeny and I saying “Wouldn’t it be cool if?” and basically eventually looking into it and working on it and all of a sudden we had a working prototype of the app and the station and went, whoa – we aren’t far off making this a reality. It’s also part of our push towards wanting to make ACTUAL fans for bands in the heavy genre!”
Fuck yeah, great work! Who have you got on the playlists at the moment?
“August Burns Red, Cross Faith, In Hearts Wake, King Parrot, Justice For The Damned, Make Them Suffer, Nine Inch Nails, Polaris, Thy Art Is Murder, Trivum, Hellions, Falling In Reverse” …the list goes on.
Great so a big combination of bands from all over and you’ve got incentives for people to download the app too, whats in that?
“In there at the moment, there is a whole heap of places to go to get cheap and discounted merch and vinyl in the heavy genres. Eventually, there will be exclusive stuff. There’s also a unique Faction Member ID that will eventually be something you can flash at shows or at the merch desk at shows for free stuff or discounts etc.”
“The radio stream is in there, you can listen to your data’s content, bluetooth it to your car stereo or portable speakers, or mirror it to your Apple Airplay device or Chromecast it too. On top of that, I have aggregated a tonne of great heavy music sites’ [Wall of Sound included] news feeds to the app too – so you can kind of get everything you want to know in a central hub.
If any bands want to get their music on The Faction, how can they get in touch?
“Shoot me an email email@example.com + your 2 best singles as MP3 in a share link i.e. dropbox!”
Fantastic so a one stop shop for all things metal. Hows the response been so far?
“I just want to say it’s already been overwhelming. There’s well over 200 downloads just of the Google Play app in 3 hours. I am just stoked.”
Get aboard the new way to listen to metal in Australia.
You’ll also be able to hear interviews from our Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall podcast at 12pm and 7pm everyday, so jump online or download the app and fill your day with more metal than your body can handle.
