Starting out in a band can be hard, finding gigs, making sure your members are all on point and not to mention perfecting your performance skills in front of an audience. Well if you’ve always wanted to play among some of the best upcoming bands in the country the Rising Force Festival in Perth is looking for you.
Organiser (and metal legend) Stu McGill is looking for bands to chuck on the roster on September 24th and this could be your chance to get some exposure and play a gig, no matter what age you are. We caught up with Stu to find out what he’s looking for
What are you looking for in regards to applications?
“No need for an essay. A paragraph or two is great and a link to an EPK if you have one is welcome. If you’re more of a junior band, a Facebook link, a bandcamp demo or a youtube video is ok too.”
What level of experience is needed?
“There will be a split on the day, we will have room for a couple of inexperienced younger bands to give them a shot, including under 18s/high school bands and we will go right up to the very experienced touring Australian bands “
You’re even opening it up for High School bands too, why’s that?
“I’d love to find a couple of killer high school bands looking to perform on a real stage and gain some experience playing to a crowd. This event is about exposing Australian metal to a wider audience and that includes bringing brand new acts in that will be there to carry the torch in years to come”
When do applications need to be in by?
“Applications need to be in by the first week of August [THIS WEEK]. I’m in Germany for a few weeks of touring so if you don’t hear back straight away, don’t panic!”
How long are sets?
“Sets will vary depending on the band. They could be any where between 15-20 minutes up to an hour for a headliner. That will be all confirmed soon”
Where will it be held?
“There is a new facility opening in Perth soon which is yet to be made public by the owners so I can’t say too much just yet. Previously though, its been very hard to put on an AA style festival due to WA liquor licensing laws prohibiting venues to 18+ only”
Are you looking for any particular type of band/style/genre?
“Where as my other festival, Stormrider is very genre specific, Rising Force is welcoming any metal sub genre to submit an application to perform.”
